On to State!

Track sectionals were held last Saturday and Jessi did great! She advanced to State in all 4 of her events. This weekend is the State meet. Prelims will be run on Friday. There are 16 girls/relay teams in each event. The top 8 will move on to the finals which will be run on Saturday. If you make it to the finals you are guaranteed a medal. Here are the details of how she did:

100 Meter Dash - 12.88
Jessi came in 4th. I didn't think she'd qualify for State in this event and it ended up being a photo finish. In her sectional the winner's time was 12.68. To put Jessi's time in perspective the probable winner of this years State meet, and current state record holder of the 100, ran it in 11.95 seconds at her sectionals. That is a big time difference for a short race. I hope Jessi finishes 12th or better or/and runs her personal best (pb).

400 Meter Dash - 59.53
Jessi came in 3rd and ran a pb. In her sectional the winner's time was 58.03. The probable winner of this years State meet, and current state record holder of the 400, ran it in 56.65 seconds at her sectionals. Now that is FAST! Jessi does have a chance to advance to the finals in this event. There are several girls who run this race in about the same time as Jessi. I can not tell you how excited Jessi would be to medal in an individual event.

4X200 Meter Relay - 1:47.59
Jessi's relay team came in 3rd. In her sectionals the wining relay team's time was 1:44.47. The probable wining relay team of this year's State meet ran it in 1:41.47 at their sectionals. It is a toss up as to whether or not Jessi's relay team has a chance to advance to the finals in this event. If they run their best AND have great hand offs AND have a little luck they might have a shot.

4X400 Meter Relay - 4:05.02
Jessi's relay team came in 2nd. In her sectionals the wining relay team's time was 4:01.1. The probable wining relay team of this years State meet ran it in 3:57.61 at their sectionals. That means that all four runners ran a 400 in an average of 59.4 seconds! That is crazy fast! Jessi's relay team has a chance to advance to the finals in this event. They will have to run well.

Jessi has put a lot of pressure on herself to do well. I get very nervous right before her races. I will let you know how she does.

Track Update

The District meet for track was last Saturday. It was hosted by Union High School in Union, MO which is a long drive for us. Jessi ran her first two events, the 100 meter dash and the 4X200 meter relay and advanced to Sectionals. Just before she was to run the 400 Meter dash the weather turned ugly and the meet was delayed. Eventually the meet was called and rescheduled for yesterday, Monday, May 12. Jessi ran her remaining two events the 400 meter dash and the 4X400 meter relay and advanced to sectionals in both. Sectionals are this coming Saturday, May 17. They are being held in Cape Giradeau, MO. Wish her luck!

Lots to update

My sister and her family came for a visit a couple of weekends ago. Her oldest son Dylan, (2 years old) LOVES Devin.

Jessi had a track meet the Saturday they were visiting. Thankfully the weather was warm.

Drew is my sister's youngest. He is 9 months and is a very happy baby. I loved having them around. I wish we could see each other more often.

In case you haven't heard. Jessi has a car. It is a 2002 PT Cruiser with 36,000 miles on it. Jessi doesn't have her license yet but hopefully by the end of the month.

My mom and dad split the cost with us. (Thanks Mom and Dad). Be sure to keep an eye out for her on the road and let Kyle and I know how she is driving.
