On to State!

Track sectionals were held last Saturday and Jessi did great! She advanced to State in all 4 of her events. This weekend is the State meet. Prelims will be run on Friday. There are 16 girls/relay teams in each event. The top 8 will move on to the finals which will be run on Saturday. If you make it to the finals you are guaranteed a medal. Here are the details of how she did:

100 Meter Dash - 12.88
Jessi came in 4th. I didn't think she'd qualify for State in this event and it ended up being a photo finish. In her sectional the winner's time was 12.68. To put Jessi's time in perspective the probable winner of this years State meet, and current state record holder of the 100, ran it in 11.95 seconds at her sectionals. That is a big time difference for a short race. I hope Jessi finishes 12th or better or/and runs her personal best (pb).

400 Meter Dash - 59.53
Jessi came in 3rd and ran a pb. In her sectional the winner's time was 58.03. The probable winner of this years State meet, and current state record holder of the 400, ran it in 56.65 seconds at her sectionals. Now that is FAST! Jessi does have a chance to advance to the finals in this event. There are several girls who run this race in about the same time as Jessi. I can not tell you how excited Jessi would be to medal in an individual event.

4X200 Meter Relay - 1:47.59
Jessi's relay team came in 3rd. In her sectionals the wining relay team's time was 1:44.47. The probable wining relay team of this year's State meet ran it in 1:41.47 at their sectionals. It is a toss up as to whether or not Jessi's relay team has a chance to advance to the finals in this event. If they run their best AND have great hand offs AND have a little luck they might have a shot.

4X400 Meter Relay - 4:05.02
Jessi's relay team came in 2nd. In her sectionals the wining relay team's time was 4:01.1. The probable wining relay team of this years State meet ran it in 3:57.61 at their sectionals. That means that all four runners ran a 400 in an average of 59.4 seconds! That is crazy fast! Jessi's relay team has a chance to advance to the finals in this event. They will have to run well.

Jessi has put a lot of pressure on herself to do well. I get very nervous right before her races. I will let you know how she does.

Congratulations once again, Jessi. I know you're now at State and we'll be anxiously awaiting results of that. We wish we were there to watch you in person.
